With their fluorescent yellow jackets, notepads, flashlights, and cellphones, the Crime Stoppers Community Patrol sets out to reduce crime and give property owners and visitors in the downtown area a greater sense of safety.
The Crime Stoppers Community Patrol is a program offered to students in the Justice Studies stream at Sault College. Student volunteers in groups of 2 or more patrol the downtown area in the evening, during weekends, and at major events. Crime Stoppers Community Patrollers observe and report suspicious activity including but not limited to vandalism and break and enters.
This program has been made possible through the cooperative efforts of Crime Stoppers, Sault College, the Downtown Association, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, and other businesses and organizations.
