Notification of Community Crime
N.O.C.C is a crime prevention program that decreases crime of opportunity through increased community participation.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has teamed up with Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma Crime Stoppers to initiate the N.O.C.C program within the community. Crimes are tracked to determine any emerging crime patterns. Once a pattern emerges, police and the patrollers will canvass the area, speaking to residents of the area in which the crime has been occurring.
The idea of this program is to make residents aware of the type of crimes taking place in their neighborhood and arm them with information on home security. The N.O.C.C. program creates a two way dialogue with residents which could lead to information police may not be aware of. The police and the Crime Stoppers volunteers will be out on Tuesdays from 6 pm to 8 pm.
Crime Stoppers Community Patrol
Many of the volunteers for the Crime Stoppers Community Patrol will be lending their time to the N.O.C.C. program. They will be conducting door knocks as instructed by a representative of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.
These volunteers will carry an identification card with a badge number unique to them. The public can validate their involvement in the N.O.C.C. program by calling the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.
